After experiencing the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and the 24 Hours of Daytona as a child, Andrew Rains was hooked on anything related to motorsports. Like many in the sport he has his father to blame for exposing him to incredible race cars, race tracks and the passion for racing. Growing up less than five miles from Barber Motorsports Park proved pivotal as Andrew started competing at autocross events at the age of 16.
Andrew's first racing experience came in a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV in vintage racing. The GTV was soon traded for Late Model stock car competition while at the same time competing with the Formula SAE team at Auburn University. While studying at Auburn University, Andrew got plenty of seat time in both the stock car, winning a regional championship and in the school's Formula SAE car. The Formula SAE experience proved valuable, both enabling Andrew to develop his understanding of motorsports and for introducing him to opportunities to work in the pits in the Grand Am series (now IMSA).
Before graduating from Auburn, Andrew made his professional racing debut in the Touring Car division of the Pirelli World Challenge. Andrew achieved several top five finishes and one podium finish while managing his own team that he funded with help from sponsors, family, friends and investors. This experience led to a job in Andrew's hometown of Birmingham, Alabama with the Porsche Track Experience. During that time Andrew and his business partners developed and launched APEX Pro, a company focused on helping drivers use data to improve themselves behind the wheel. Since 2015 Andrew has been coaching drivers across North America and is passionate about learning and helping others achieve their goals behind the wheel.
